A new Japanese website lets you create or recreate the perfect cat – with over 200 million combinations

For cat lovers, the idea of recreating what is already the perfect cat – the one or ones they live with – doesn’t seem entirely possible, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try. Japan’s new Uchinoko Maker website lets users spend hours and hours building a cat from scratch or adorably recreating their own bit by bit. By choosing from various patterns, tails, body shapes, eyes, and more, you can create incredibly cute cat artwork to download and even turn into clothes and accessories.

Both the website and its chat building service are completely free. Although in Japanese, the whole process is based on selecting pictographs of body parts and drawings to assemble, so no knowledge of Japanese is required (just click the black button that says つくってみよう to start). From there, you can start individually assembling your cat, like a character created in a video game, into adorable artwork. A Tweet from the company gives a brief overview of the process.

When you’re done, just tap the Finish button (できた!) in the upper right corner. From there you can name your cat and then upload or share on social media. The service is also tied to Japanese custom-made item maker SUZURI, so you can automatically turn your cat artwork into t-shirts, phone cases, and bags if you live in Japan (if you’re able to buy, a purchase goes towards a care day for a shelter cat).

In Japanese uchi no ko literally means “my child”, but is often used to refer to his pets. While the current website currently has over 200 million possible illustrations, more templates will be added as needed. With details as small as the ability to add “socks” to your cat, you’re sure to be able to find something similar to your own beloved cat, but even if you can’t, you can post a photo of your cat on Instagram with the hashtag #うちのこメーカー and the creators say they will draw one for free.

Have fun customizing the cat of your dreams, or simply recreating the one you’ve already met.
