Clothing store finds new home in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – A groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning is symbolic for the business owner, who has seen a change of scenery on several occasions since the start of 2020.

Herbert Shelton, owner and CEO of MBR Apparel, is delighted to call the new location at 4330 New Road in Austintown home.

“This is the third site in two years,” he said. “I think this will be the last move we make. “

Launched downtown at 20 W. Federal St. last year, Shelton then moved to McGuffey Road and Albert Avenue until the building’s lease expired. “Now we are here,” he said.

Clothing that targets all demographic groups and accessories will appeal to men, women and children.

“We take care of the high-end commercial, the low-end” as well as the original creations of MBR. “We have designers in the city we work with,” as well as a designer overseas who looks after the shoes, Shelton said.

The third move was an investment Shelton made on his own for between $ 12,000 and $ 13,000, without the help of grants or loans, he said. This figure includes the move, purchase of inventory and other necessary bills associated with the move.

“It was all God’s work,” Shelton said of the MBR brand’s five-year journey.

Representing McGuffey Bennington Records Apparel, Shelton founded the company after drawing inspiration from his grandmother.

“We’ve built a brand behind the name,” he said, referring to the McGuffey Records label.

An acquaintance gave him an opportunity when Shelton shared his idea of starting a clothing business, he said. “They needed someone to rent” the building while Shelton needed a space to get to work, he said.

Now in Austintown, MBR Apparel can hire full-time and part-time staff, providing dental and health benefits to eligible employees.

MBR Apparel is open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
