New website lets former college athletes sell loot

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WOOD) – College athletes may not get paid, but they are racking up a royal sum of equipment. Now, a new activity allows the old layers to benefit from it.

The players’ chest was started by a couple of student managers from Michigan, Austin Pomerantz and Jason Lansing.

“I don’t know why we didn’t think about it sooner,” said former player Charles Matthews.

He said he didn’t know what to do with all of his shoes, shorts and shirts at the end of his Michigan career, and that he was not alone.

“The first thing we saw was that once the varsity athletes graduated, they immediately wanted to post their equipment, but they were selling it on Instagram,” Pomerantz said.

“I tell myself that there really has to be some sort of platform that allows these students to make money with their equipment after they graduate because they don’t get paid when they’re in school.” , Lansing said.

So they built it.

As of Friday, they had 40 athletes registered to unload their loot and more online.

“People are dying to have exclusive team gear that has a number on it that you can’t find in public. I think that’s the appeal of it, ”Lansing said.

The most unique item to come out of the door was Matthews of San Antonio’s Final Four chair in 2018.

“There are probably around 130 of these chairs made,” Matthews said.

One of them can now be yours – for $ 20,000.

“We just felt it was impossible to replicate this piece,” Pomerantz explained how they achieved the award.

The business boomed when Lansing contacted ESPN basketball analyst Jay Bilas. He died at Tweeter July 7 and the traffic immediately increased, Pomerantz said.

“After he posted that tweet, we had over 650 people in the store. Our social audience has exploded, ”said Pomerantz. “It was great to see.”
