Nike removes Redskins name and clothing from website

Nike was one of three companies to recently receive a letter from investors asking it to sever ties with the Washington Redskins unless the team changes its name.

Another such company, FedEx, responded on Thursday by formally requesting that the team change its name. Nike and third company PepsiCo have yet to respond, but there’s one major omission on Nike’s website that may hint at what’s to come.

Nike, the official supplier of NFL game day uniforms, no longer allows customers to purchase Washington clothing on its website. The Nike.com NFL page lists all the teams in the left sidebar except Washington. Additionally, its shopping filters also omit Washington, and its search feature shows other teams but no results for Washington.

It is not known when Nike made this change to the website. AdWeek reported on Wednesday that investment firms and shareholders with a collective value of $ 620 billion sent letters to Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo last Friday.

In its request to the team on Thursday, FedEx said, “We have communicated to the Washington team our request to change the team name.”
