Planning application to turn Hamilton’s former pharmacy into a cafe submitted

Planning permission is sought to convert an old Hamilton pharmacy into a café.

The former Right Medicine Pharmacy site on Brandon Street has been vacant for about five months, but a planning application was filed in late January to convert the store into a cafe/restaurant.

The premises were rented out in September last year, and the rental offered a full repair and insurance lease for a term to be agreed.

The developers want to develop the premises on two floors, and the request was validated on Monday (March 7), with a neighborhood consultation and a standard consultation starting today (March 9).

The applicant is proposing to have a take-out seating area, salad bar, grill area and seating for eight people as well as an accessible washroom on the ground floor.

On the first floor, there will be a dining room that can accommodate 26 people, a juice bar area and men’s and women’s toilets.

Relevant site layouts, floor plans and photographs were produced to support the planning application.

The app has not yet received any objection or support comments.

The deadline for determining the planning for the application is May 6.
