Ralph Lauren will block online shoppers in Korea from its official U.S. website a week before Black Friday, the biggest selling event of the year there, as well as shoppers from across the Asian region.

“Local customers are not allowed to purchase Ralph Lauren products directly through the US online mall during the Black Friday sales. This policy will continue for some time and we are waiting for the head office in the US to give us an explanation, ”said Ralph Lauren. an official in Korea said.

Ralph Lauren, and many other brands, will begin Black Friday sales from November 26, when clothing and accessories will be offered with discounts of up to 90%.

The price advantage isn’t the only reason many local shoppers shop from the casual fashion giant’s US website. There are a variety of items that are not available in the domestic market.

Industry insiders say there are two possible reasons the fashion company is blocking direct purchases from the Asian region during this period.

In Korea, Ralph Lauren is one of the most popular casual fashion brands purchased during the Black Friday sales. The fashion company’s Korean branch wants to defend its sales here and has reportedly asked headquarters to block local customers.

Prices for Ralph Lauren items in local department stores are 30-50% higher than the same items in the United States.

An industry source, contrary to the previous statement by the local Ralph Lauren distributor, said: “Ralph Lauren’s Korean subsidiary allegedly filed a complaint with its US headquarters for harming domestic sales at the event. Black Friday in America. ”

Another possible reason is that many Chinese buyers have allegedly purchased large quantities of Ralph Lauren products for resale in China while returning the replicas to the US seller for refund. However, this claim was not confirmed by representatives of the brand.

Due to restrictions on direct overseas purchases, local customers resort to strategies such as using VPNs to route IP address locations outside of Asia.

Additionally, people use US addresses registered with Korean logistics agencies there and then pay additional shipping charges to receive their orders from the sales intermediaries.

Some have suggested that it is possible to bypass the system by using PayPal for online payments, but this method is said to be unreliable.

“Ralph Lauren items get very expensive with various added fees when imported into Korea. The fashion company must find a way to narrow the price gap instead of just blocking local buyers from direct purchases from Korea. ‘America,’ said a Korean man identified only by their last name, Kim.
