Shimano closes fake customs clearance site

Shimano has announced that a bogus clearance site has been shut down, following complaints from the brand.

In October, the Japanese equipment manufacturer revealed that it had been alerted by an online page, www.shimano-clearance.storewhich pretended to be an official Shimano website.

After filing a complaint with the authorities, Shimano announced the closure of the counterfeit site in early December.

A statement from Shimano, released last week, said: “We would like to inform you that the fake website (https://www.shimano-clearance.store/) pretending to be our company has been closed.

“As announced on our website on October 22, 2021, after discovering the site in question, we promptly sent a petition for its closure to the relevant agencies and organizations, including sending a warning letter, and we have confirmed that the site was closed in early December.

“We will continue to take resolute action against any suspicious website impersonating our company or group.”

Earlier this year, Shimano announced that it had stepped up its efforts in the fight against counterfeiting and intellectual property theft.

The new counterfeit crackdown involved greater collaboration with brand law enforcement and the possibility of legal action against those selling products claimed to be official Shimano parts.

Following the latest closure, Shimano added: “Accessing suspicious websites or entering your personal information may not only make you a victim of fraud, but also lead to misuse of your personal information.

“Please be careful not to access suspicious websites or enter your personal information.

“Furthermore, if you believe that you have accessed a suspicious website or have been a victim, or if there is a possibility of becoming a victim, we would like you to immediately consult the authorities that assist consumers or other competent agencies, such as than the police.”
