Never let Bryce Harper forget what he could have had here in DC.
Although the Nationals won the World Series last night, many fans couldn’t help but think of an ex-team superstar.
Earlier this year, Bryce Harper announced that he would be leaving the Washington Nationals and joining division rival Philadelphia Phillies. During the Nationals playoffs, Harper’s introductory press conference with the Phillies resurfaced where Harper said, “We want to bring a title back to DC”
Well, he wasn’t wrong. While Harper was considered the backbone of the Nationals during a visit to the World Series when he was signed No. 1 overall in 2010, it turns out that wasn’t the case.
However, a clothing company took the opportunity to forever remind Bryce Harper of the wish he granted Nationals fans.
Smack Apparel, a family-run, unlicensed sportswear company, has unveiled what they call the “Bryce-less” t-shirt. The shirt features Harper’s now infamous quote on the front. The back features a quote that reads “There are some things money can’t buy, but for everything else there is WINNING EVERYTHING” in a nod to his 13-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies.
Smack Apparel is different from other sportswear companies because they focus on creating rivalry-oriented apparel. Owner Wayne Curtiss explained why he thinks this t-shirt design is important to DC fans.
“We live for opportunities like this. Unlike licensed apparel companies, we have the ability to rely on the voice of the fan – and “Nats fans are not only happy to win the World Series, they appreciate the fact that they did it without Bryce Harper,” Curtis said.
You can buy your own “Bryce-less” t-shirt at Smack Apparel starting at $19.99.
